Product Options & Specifications:

Core Construction

durable

terra legno Engineered Flooring offers the exact look and refinishing features of solid wood flooring with superior dimensional stability and performance of engineered construction.

Baltic Birch Multi-Ply Core

terra legno’s Multi-ply core is manufactured with marine grade Baltic Birch (hardwood). Baltic Birch cores are well known for their exceptional strength and stability. The core is constructed multiple layers of wood based on the thickness of the flooring ranging from 7 plys to 11 plys. Each ply is glued with a coating of a formaldehyde free adhesive before the plys are pressed. The plys (grains) are running at a 90- degree angle to each ply. With changes in the environmental conditions (relative humidity), the ply’s wood fibers absorb the moisture, and they want to expand. Or loose moisture and want to shrink. Each layer is restrained the adjacent layer. terra legno’s Baltic Birch hardwood core construction is engineered for exceptional performance addressing the cupping, gapping, and delamination characteristics of wide plank flooring with wear layers not greater than 4mm. terra legno engineered wood flooring with Baltic Birch Multi-Ply cores offer a lifetime of performance and customer satisfaction for residential and commercial environments.

Tri-Layer Max Core

The Tri-Layer-Max Core is a 3-Ply Hevawood (Hardwood) Batten Core Construction. Hevawood is dimensionally stable hardwood, with a Janka Hardness rating of 933. Engineered wood floors with cores made from a cheaper soft wood (such as pine) have far greater variations in the dimensional coefficient between the layers of the core, compromising the floor’s lifetime structural integrity. Tri-Layer-Max’s hardwood planking has been designed specifically to address the performance challenges caused by the delamination failures of wide plank flooring with wear layers greater than 4mm. The balanced hardwood core construction reduces the equilibrium between each layer, resulting in enhanced performance and eliminating delamination, gapping, and cupping issues.

Tri-Layer-Max Hardwood battens (grains) run at 90-degree angles to each layer. With changes in the environmental conditions (relative humidity), the wood fibers absorb the moisture and tend to expand. Likewise, when the wood’s fibers lose moisture they tend to shrink. With Tri-Layer-Max Hardwood battens, each layer is restrained by the adjacent layer, minimizing expansion and shrinkage for greater peace of mind.

Wear Layer

durable

For your peace of mind and to ensure the enduring performance, terra legno wood floors are manufactured with the highest-quality woods sourced from sustainable managed forests. All terra legno engineered wood flooring is constructed with sawn-faced wear layers. These are the most durable wear layers, and they have the exact same appearance as solid hardwood floors.

terra legno’s sawn-faced wear layers can be resanded. Our products are available with wear layers from 3mm to 6mm. A 2.5mm sawn faced wear layer may be resanded two to three times. A solid ¾” hardwood floor has a wear layer equal to approximately 4mm.

By contrast, sliced and rotary-peeled wear layers have manufacturing processes that requires the wood to be soaked in water. This weakens the wood’s grains, greatly diminishing the durability of the wood floors. Resanding rotary-peeled and sliced wear layers is not an option. Additionally, the appearance of rotary-peeled wear layers has been compared to the look of plywood, meaning it cannot compare to terra legno’s style and design.

Finishes

The terra legno ClassicoMax, Nuevo Classico, Autentico, and Spectrum Collections offer Light Wire Brushed Finishes.

Cuts in Wood

When the details matter, so does cut of wood. How the wood is cut significantly changes the character and overall look of the product. Here is more information on the various cuts of wood we offer:

Plain Sawn Cut

Plain sawn is the most common cut of lumber in wood flooring.

  • Plain sawn cuts a side of the log and then turns it 90 degrees before the next cut is made.
  • Graining in Pain Sawn is in open “cathedral” patterns as they resemble the steeples of churches.
Quarter Sawn Cut

  • Quarter sawn flooring, the log is first cut into quarters. Then each of the quarters are cute perpendicular to the growth rings of the log.
  • Quarter sawn cuts create a tight graining at angles of 60-90 degrees that are close to the surface of the board.
  • The quarter sawn cuts resulting pattern is beautiful flecks of color from the wood’s medullary ray (ribbons which extend vertically through the tree, perpendicular to the growth rings).
  • Quarter sawn flooring is more expensive than plain sawn as quarter sawn
Rift Sawn

  • Rift sawn cuts the lumber is first cut into quarters.
  • The quarters are then cut radially perpendicular to its growth rings.
  • Rift sawn cuts produces a straight grain pattern with discernible flecking.
  • Rift sawn cuts produce both exquisite beauty and enhanced stability with a lineal appearance. Rift sawn cuts is the most expensive of cuts.
Live Sawn

  • Live sawn cuts the log directly through with each cut.
  • Live Sawn Cuts does not try to avoid any knots or heartwood resulting in the wood’s unique natural character look.
  • The grain pattern ranges widely from quarter sawn on the outside cuts to plain sawn in the center cuts.

Grading

From balanced, natural character to mixed grains and vintage variations, terra legno offers a variety of grading options to match and enhance your latest project.

Prime Grade

  • Prime Grade of wood portrays a clean natural looking floor.
  • Prime Grade has the of character marks of a select grade with sporadic mineral streaks which can include small solid filled knots.
  • Prime Grade has slight variations of in coloration due to the contrasting differences of heartwood and sapwood.
  • The combination of heartwood and sapwood creates a floor where light sapwood and dark heartwood are combined with small characters and other small interruptions. (NWFA/NOFMA).
Select Grade

  • Select Grade of wood portrays a most consistent uniform natural looking floor offering a very clean wood flooring look.

  • Select Grade has minimal character marks, such as small knots, worm holes, and mineral streaks.

  • Select Grade has the most consistent variations of in coloration due to the contrasting differences of heartwood and sapwood.

  • The combination of heartwood and sapwood creates a floor where light sapwood and dark heartwood are combined with small characters and other small interruptions. (NWFA/NOFMA).

  • The Select Grade will have very small sporadic small pin knots.
