Sawn Faced Wear Layer

Terra legno engineered wood flooring is constructed with sawn faced wear layers. Sawn Faced wear layers are the most durable and have the exact same appearance as a solid hardwood floors. terra legno’s Sawn Faced Wear Layers are resandable. Our products are available with wear layers from 3mm to 6mm. A 2.5 mm Wear Layer is resandable two to three times. A solid 3/4” hardwood floor has a wear layer equal to approximately 4mm.

Terra legno products are not manufactured with either of the cheaper to manufacture methods of Sliced and Rotary Peeled wear layers because both methods soak the wood in water. Soaking the wood in water weakens the wood’s grains greatly diminishing the durability of the wood floors. Rotary peeled and Sliced Wear Layers are rarely able to be resanded 2- 3 times, and typically resanding is not an option.

The appearance of Rotary Peeled Wear Layers has been compared to the look of plywood. For peace of mind and enduring performance terra legno wood floors are manufactured with the highest quality woods sourced from sustainable FSC forests.

French White Oaks with Tri-Layer-MaX Core

Tri-Layer-MaX 3-Ply Oak Construction is designed to address the inherent dimensional stability challenges of wide plank flooring: gapping, cupping, and delamination. Tri-Layer-MaX is constructed with oak hardwood (the same species) throughout all three layers of the plank. Tri-Layer-MaX’s three-layer oak construction significantly lowers the dimensional change of coefficient. The dimensional change of coefficient is numerical factor used to express the rate of expansion or contraction of the wood plank’s species due to changes in environmental conditions (relative humidity). Engineered wood floors constructed with cost cutting soft wood cores like pine, result in greater dimensional changes of coefficient between the layers of the core. Wood floors constructed with softwood cores are more sensitive to environmental fluctuations creating an imbalance between the top hardwood wear layer leading to a higher frequency of gapping, cupping, and delamination issues, and ultimately a very poor level customer satisfaction.

With changes in the environmental conditions (relative humidity), the wood fibers absorb the moisture, and they want to expand. Or when the wood’s fibers lose moisture and want to shrink. However, each layer is restrained by the adjacent layer. French White Oaks withTri-Layer Core

Tri-Layer Core is a 3-Ply Hardwood Core Construction with the core manufactured with Hevawood. Tri-Layer’s Hevawood (a hardwood) construction is designed to address the performance challenges of wide plank flooring: gapping, cupping and delamination. The Hevawood hardwood construction reduces the equilibrium between each layer. Engineered wood floors with cores constructed with a cheaper soft wood core (e.g. pine) result in greater dimensional changes of coefficient between the layers of the core challenging the floors lifetime structural performance.

Baltic Birch Multi-Ply Core

terra legno’s Multi-ply core is manufactured with marine grade Baltic Birch (hardwood). Baltic Birch cores are well known for their exceptional strength and stability. The core is constructed multiple layers of wood based on the thickness of the flooring ranging from 7 plys to 11 plys. Each ply is glued with a coating of a formaldehyde free adhesive before the plys are pressed. The plys (grains) are running at a 90- degree angle to each ply. With changes in the environmental conditions (relative humidity), the ply’s wood fibers absorb the moisture, and they want to expand. Or loose moisture and want to shrink.
